Testing Colors
Had fun with colors yesterday and this is what was waiting for me this morning. I'm going to take a new tact for my color tests. I used to just write it all down in my little moleskine notebook as I worked it. But I don't have the slightest idea what it looked like unless I dig into my old photos as well. Now I'm going to print out a small copy of the image along with my notes. This will probably make my little notebook a little lumpy but I've already done all these tests once before. I'm loving all of them. The group of 5 on the far left are a copper green base with SIS dots topped with more copper green then rubino. Very irridescent. Next I tried to wrap the silver on the ivory dots instead of SIS. Then base of violet instead of copper green. The bright blue in the center was a base of copper green with dark turquoise dots topped with EDP with opal yellow. Then it was Double Helix original Terra on top of SIS dots on a copper green base. Second from right should be over on the far left. The far right double beads didn't show the subtle "lemongrass" colors of copper green and evil purple.
Going to get back to the old schedule for the trunk show at Suzi Richey's A Bead Boutique - first Tuesday of the month. Next show is Tuesday, October 2 from 11am to 5:30pm at 2925 Jackson St, Alexandria, La 71301.
I will also be at the Alexandria Museum of Arts' Second Saturday Market on Saturday, October, 13, 9am to 1pm.
I will not be going to New Orleans this fall. I'm so sorry and I will miss my NOLA friends. But as always, you can buy from my shops listed on the right side of this page ---> or just send me a message if you see a post with a pic of the bead you've been waiting for.
Till later - Flame on!

Fresh From the Flames 8-30-11
Look what I found in the kiln this morning! The sparkle on these are fantastic. Better than I'd hoped when I was making them. I have to give credit for the idea to Corina of Corinabeads. Her newsletter yesterday mentioned a technique that I had not played with for a while.

FireDivas Giveaway - I won!
Thanks to the FireDivas Givaway I got these lovely little beads from Patrice Shepherd of ShepherdCreations in the mail today. I've always loved glass and especially glass beads. I used to collect lampwork beads. I learned how to make glass beads as a way to know a good bead from a bad. I got addicted and the rest is DebiDeaux history. But in these past seven years of learning to make beads I stopped collecting them from other beadmakers. I think maybe this win might change this around. It was so enchanting to hold beads in my hand made by someone else. Now I need to decide what I'm gonna do with them. Necklace, bracelet, earrings?

Since it's Halloween weekend I'll have a nice big bowl of treats (no, not figs and eggplants - I'm thinking Snickers and M&M's) and nary a trick (unless you count my witty repartee LOL)

Arts Market of New Orleans

In the picture above are a handful of ruffle beads I made this past week. I've got lots more other styles too. I really got into playing with the silver foil and silvered ivory. I etched a whole load of beads too. And there's still several days of playing with fire before the market this Saturday. Oh, yeah, the market. Here's the info for this week's market. It's gonna be a fine New Orleans picture postcard kind of day!

Fresh From the Flames

Torching therapeutic? Well, maybe if it's fun too. I sat down to the torch and had no inspiration and couldn't find that creative "bone" anywhere in my body.So I started by putting together some of my favorite color combinations. Then I had a ruffles attacked.
I wound up playing with the pinks first, deep rich ruby gold with dark pink. Then like any good "meal" I had to add some greens - pale emerald and grass green.
Then I had another ruby gold attack! But this time I wanted to put it with orange! Yeah! Love it!
And, of course, more greens with aqua and pea green (yeah, I know - there's a little blue in that aqua).
So where's the therapy? Well after the first two ruffles (which have found their way into my booboo bowl), it was just Zen to wind one after the other.
I'm open to some more color suggestions. I'm trying to keep it to one opaque and one transparent color, for now. On tap next I think I'd like to try that same orange with ink blue. I've got some opal yellow that reminds me of key lime pie that might look mighty nice with a bright medium blue.
I'm assisting Paulette Lizano at NOCGI again this weekend, and next. This time we're doing an extensive glass slumping class. Then on March 20, I'll be teaching a 3 hour workshop. There's still time to get into Paulette's class tonight and still room in my workshop. Please call Jenny ASAP at NOCGI. Phone 504.482.6003
My next market will be the Arts Market of New Orleans the last Saturday of the month, March 27, 10am to 4pm in Palmer Park, corner of S Carrollton & S Claiborne.
